The Nordic Tug 37 is the manufacturer's first European Union-certified boat.Northwest boaters on holiday in northern Europe may now find a familiar sight when they stop by to check out the boats in the local marina.  Northwest boat builder Nordic Tugs is taking its distinctive, hand-crafted, classic tug-style yachts to Europe.

Headquartered in Burlington, Wash., Nordic Tugs has signed its first European dealer, who will do business as Nordic Tugs UK Ltd., with offices located in both Southampton and Falmouth, United Kingdom.  The company will be the distributor for both the U.K. and Western Europe.

J Nordic Tugim Cress, president and CEO of Nordic Tugs, noted that the U.K. was the most natural place to enter the European market, due largely to the lack of language barriers and because the southern coast of England, the northern coast of France and the Channel Islands were ideal cruising grounds for Nordic Tugs.
“The avid cruiser is centrally poised to launch north into Scandinavia, inland into France and southern Europe via a multitude of rivers and canals, not to mention the rest of the British Isles," Cress explained.

“We chose Nordic Tugs UK Ltd., because we felt they represented the best balance of enthusiasm and professional demeanor and had a prime location at the Hamble Point Marina in Southampton.”

Nordic TugAccording to Nordic Tugs UK Ltd. Managing Director Richard Baldwin, he and partner Rodney Galbraith instantly recognized that Nordic Tugs would fit well into their market, in part due to the growing popularity of trawler-style boats, and because they are a unique offering due to their strong and identifiable character. In addition, Nordic Tugs’ semi-displacement hull and sea-keeping abilities are ideal for the area’s climate and cruising conditions, particularly in northern Europe.

“Our recent visit to the factory in Washington State sealed our decision to sign on as a Nordic Tugs dealer – it truly surpassed our expectations,” stated Baldwin. “The fine heritage of the boats and the company’s clear dedication to building the highest quality vessel – without any of the shortcuts.”

Nordic Tugs UK Ltd. took delivery of Nordic Tugs’ first European Union (EU) certified boat, a Nordic Tug 37, in early September 2007, and has three additional boats on order – a 32, 42 and the new 47-foot model, which will debut in the United States in the summer of 2008.
