Rosario Marina on Orcas Island is a newly certified Clean Marina.Add Rosario Resort and Marina to the list of clean marinas recognized by the Clean Marina Washington Program. Awarded for its efforts to protect water quality, properly manage waste and promote clean boating, Rosario is one of the 25 marinas in the state listed as a Certified Clean Marina.

“All of us here at the Rosario Marina are happy at seeing our hard work paid off,” says Rosario Resort Marina harbormaster, Gary Joseph.  “We’re proud to be part of the few Clean Marinas in the state of Washington and intend to continue to better our part in protecting our environment.”

Clean Marina program manager Chris Wilke was especially impressed with Rosario’s program and the way they communicate their environmental message to their guests. “We have a six-page checklist of environmental practices, and they were very thorough in carrying them out.  They also have an environmental package they’ve been handing out to boaters, containing an oil absorbent pad and environmental guidelines for boaters, along with important phone numbers, pump-out stations, and other relevant information.

“I’m impressed that they are a resort and yet they are willing not only to welcome guests, but to give them an environmental checklist. A lot of marinas offering transient moorage are not willing to do this.”
The Port of Friday Harbor, awarded Clean Marina status in April, is the second marina in the San Juan Islands to qualify.
