![]() Trawlers line up in the sunshine at last year’s Trawler Fest in Poulsbo. This year’s relocation to Anacortes promises the same fun with more space.
After many years at the Poulsbo marina, exhibitor Peter Whiting of Northwest Yachts suggested the move to Anacortes. In August of last year, after much deliberation, organizers accepted the idea. “We outgrew the location,” says Ami Pinter, Trawler Fest’s event manager. “Attendance is exceeding where we were to date last year… We anticipate 50 boats on display this year as well as 40-plus land exhibitors.”
Ron and Sue Lange first attended the Trawler Fest in 2006 with their trawler Popeye, a 24' Alaskan Trader. The “little darling” of the live-aboard Trawler Fest boats, Popeye will once again be on display at the docks this year with the “big girls.” “It’s fun to meet new friends and see familiar faces,” says Ron Lange. “Last year we met a couple who had seen Popeye in the Rhododendron Festival Parade in Coos Bay and were anxious to come onboard. You just never know who you’ll meet at the Trawler Fest.”
Visitors will find this year’s seminars, exhibits and demonstrations a short walk along the marina waterfront in the Seafarer’s Memorial building and the Northwest Educational Service District building. The seminars cater to boaters of all levels and interests, and range from successful trip planning and understanding weather patterns to electronics and engine maintenance. There are also first-aid courses, and a new seminar this year entitled “Women-Only: Meet Your Engines!”
