Bellingham Marine is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The global leader in designing and constructing marinas is marking the moment by returning to one of its earliest clients: Shilshole Marina. Bellingham first supplied floating concrete docks to Shilshole in 1958, in a radical departure from the timber-reliant docks of the time. Designers hoped the change in materials would boost the life of the docks from 10 or 15 years to maybe 35. Little did Bellingham guess that these concrete docks would not need replacing for the next 50 years—or, moreover, that they would boost the company to the front of the field and set the industry standard around the world. Happy anniversary Bellingham, and let’s raise a glass to Archimedes…
