Oregon to 30,000 Boaters: “Get Your Boater Education Card” |
|
|
|
Carry your boater education card or risk a ticket. Beginning this year,
all Oregon boaters age 70 and younger must carry their cards when
operating powerboats greater than 10 hp—including personal watercraft,
dinghies and sailboats under power.
According to the Oregon State Marine Board, more than 30,000 registered
boat owners still did not have boater education cards just days before
the January 1 deadline. To get the card, boaters must pay a one-time
$10 fee, fill out an application and take a classroom or Internet
course or pass an equivalency exam at their local sheriff’s office.
Class prices range from free to $45. The fine for not carrying a boater
education card: $97.
