The Northwest Yacht Brokers Association (NYBA) awarded sizeable grants to Sail Sand Point (SSP) and the Lake Union Park Capital Campaign. SSP, a non-profit community sailing organization in Seattle’s Magnuson Park, snagged NYBA’s $2,500 Jeffrey D. Briggs Award for the third consecutive year. The Lake Union Park Campaign received a more lucrative $25,000 prize for its $29.6 million plan to develop 12 acres of city space into a waterfront park… Curt Russell has joined The Seattle Marine Group, Ltd team. As the customer service coordinator for the group, which includes about a half-dozen Seattle boating businesses, and is also a certified diver. That might come in handy at this organization, which boasts expertise in “every conceivable” maritime equipment installation, from dredging to dinghies…But for Nordic Tugs founder Jerry Husted, it’s time to pop the folding bikes in his Toyota Prius and tour the country. Husted, 80, retired in December, 28 years after starting the company in 1979. By the 1980 Seattle International Boat Show, he was getting an order every three hours for his 26' tug-style yachts.

Some dock developments: Salpare Bay Marina, a luxurious new setup on Portland’s Hayden Island, is leasing 30 to 100' slips and side-ties up to 220'. On the saltier side, the Port of Bremerton began leasing slips at its new downtown expansion last fall with plans to open the marina in early 2008… A 65-acre industrial site bordering the Everett Marina is slated for a $400 million makeover. An agreement between the Port of Everett and Maritime Trust Company late last year launched phase one of the Port Gardner Wharf construction, which includes 137 townhouses and condominiums, a new commercial building and a mile and a half of public waterfront access. The Port says the project’s first phase will take about $98 million and two years. The complete project should be done by 2015 or 2016. 
