Scientists in search of the jumbo, or Humboldt, squid, will make good use of the submersibles aboard MV Alucia, a 183-foot research and adventure vacation vessel. Seattle’s Radio Holland USA is retrofitting the Deep Oceans Expeditions boat, which will also include a science lab and media center. The Discovery Channel already has the boat booked to hunt for footage of the squid…Hunter Marine Corporation’s new certified pre-owned vessels offer a nautical twist on a car-industry standard. The company hopes a 160-point inspection, reconditioning program and warranty will sooth the worries of first time buyers and convince current Hunter owners to trade up for new boats…Sun Chaser Yachts of Blaine is expanding to Mt. Vernon and bringing the assets of Sharp Yachts and Pacific PowerCats with it. Sunchaser acquired the two Everett companies in October 2007 and will now sell boats up to 30 feet at the new Mt. Vernon location... NorthStar Yachts is also on the move. According to The Columbian, the motor yacht and sportfish boat manufacturer laid off 60 workers at its Kalama, Wash. headquarters and will move production to China…Sail-making giant North Sails has acquired the Cuben Fiber Corporation. The deal includes physicist Dr. Heiner Meldner and composites engineer RJ Downs, who developed Cuben Fiber sailcloth for the 1992 America’s Cup winner, America3. North, which is headquartered in Milford Conn., bills the high-performance material as “one of the lightest and most technologically advanced sail cloth materials on the market today.”
